Hi there,
Next week I will be getting help from a student worker who will take screenshots of our translated UI which will then be used in my translated machine operator manuals.
As he will not have Flare on his PC I would like to provide him with a list of used images for that specific target. In Framemaker we had this option, but I don't seem to be able to get it through the standard reporting in Flare.
Any ideas on how to produce such a list?
If all else fails, I could try to install Contributor on his PC and check if he can see the project in there.
thank you
best regards
David

Re: Generate list of all images used in 1 output (Target)
A bit of a roundabout way, but you could try this:
1. Start with a list of all the images in the project. (Just in Windows Explorer is fine - though I couldn't tell you how to get that as a text file, so if necessary just take a screenshot of the folder!)
2. Look at the Unused Items report, and filter on Unused images. 3. On your list from step 1, cross out or delete any unused images.
Would that work for you?
ps.
Hmm. Just realised that won't work, if you have more than one target.

Re: Generate list of all images used in 1 output (Target)
thanks for your reply.
I do have a tool to create lists of files that are present in folders and subfolders but indeed I have more than one target so that won't work.
Also just discovered you cannot open an entire project in Contributor, only seperate files/review packages.

How about this -
run a build of that target then use your build log file, every "Image..." line identifies an image used in the build

Well...once you've built your target you'll have your full set of output files for that target.
I don't know how many directories within that output contain image files - whether it's one or more - but you can output a file listing for a directory to a .txt file using the Windows command prompt. A bit retro, but it works!
The simplest way I can think of is:
Repeat for any other image directories.

The simplest way I can think of is:
- Within Windows Explorer go to the directory where your images are.
- Then select the menu at the top of Windows Explorer and choose File - Open Command Prompt.
- Now type dir > image_files.txt (or filename of your choice).
Repeat for any other image directories.

Thanks for your suggestion, seems to make sense when the output is HTML.
Maybe I should have mentioned that the target is a PDF output, so in the output folder there are no seperate files, only the PDF...

Drat, drat and double drat! Thanks for your suggestion, seems to make sense when the output is HTML.

However, if that is the case...
...surely you could take a copy of your target in the Flare Project Organizer, rename it and instead of PDF, just for this instance select Word as the Output Type.
If you then go to the Advanced tab and deselect Embed Images in Output, when you build the output, it will generate a separate Images directory alongside the Word file.
That will contain all the images used in your target.
Crossing lots of fingers that this will do the trick...
