The project we are working on is published daily. I'd like to be able to mark up text in a topic so that my co-writers and I can see the markup in Flare, but that doesn't appear in the published version.
I don't suppose there's a way to make a format conditional - a different font, or a font color - so that when published it would revert to the default font or color?
Or a way to make highlighting conditional?
Non-publishing markup, formatting, or highlighting?

You can achieve what you’re after through a combination of conditions and styles.
First, for the conditions. In my own practice, I have several conditions that I use to keep content out of production builds. I’ll assume you know how to apply conditions to content and to then instruct a target to exclude those conditions from a build.
— AuthorOnly
— ReviewerOnly
— Future
— Withheld
— Obsolete
Second, at least for a few of these conditions, I have corresponding styles in my stylesheet, and those styles are associated with the conditions. For example, I have a generic style called “.Authornote” that applies a bright yellow background to content. I’ve also associated that style with the AuthorOnly condition so that that condition is applied automatically when I apply the style to content. Similarly, I have a generic “.Reviewernote” style that applies a bright pink background and is associated with the ReviewerOnly condition. I use the latter style when preparing review drafts (in Word) for SMEs.

Re: Non-publishing markup, formatting, or highlighting?
I've actually been using that technique since I learned it at MadWorld. (I probably learned it from you, Nita!). But I need something slightly different.Nita Beck wrote:You can achieve what you’re after through a combination of conditions and styles.
I want certain text to appear in the published version, but I want it to be highlighted (or in blue letters) only when viewed in Flare. When published, that same text appears as normal. Is that possible?
(I realize there's a workaround. I could write "This is the sentence I just added--->" and put that in your invisible .Authornote style.)
Re: Non-publishing markup, formatting, or highlighting?
You could just apply a condition to the content - the condition's colour will be displayed in the background in the editor (if you can't see the colour, select Conditional Indicators from the show tags 'eye' menu in the editor).
Re: Non-publishing markup, formatting, or highlighting?
I don't think you can do this. But maybe first, you should re-think what you really want to achieve. It's not normal to show every internal note in the final output. So maybe what you really want to achieve, is to conditionally show/hide those notes instead of showing them with different styles. For that, you can use the technique Nita described. In case it's not clear, you associate condition with a style by using the mc-conditions property on that style.
