Micro Content on Linux

Post by Feebeegeebee »

Hi,
I have been adding a few initial Micro Content items to my main help project.
Apart from one bug that I have already raised with Madcap, it seems to work fine on my Windows machine and on our Apache webservers.

However, I've been testing the output on a Linux VM, by running our software and launching the help as our customers would do...
...and several micro content search terms just cause the search to hang and offer no results. Others don't. :?

Any ideas why that might be? I'm about to report it to Madcap Support, but I just wondered if anyone else had seen this or will be testing their output on a Linux machine.

Thanks in advance.

Case sensitivity could be an issue, although I'm not sure exactly how the microcontent works behind the scenes. But you could compare the capitalisation of the file name, text and alternate phrases for the ones that work and the ones that don't. Maybe that would shed some light.

Thanks Psider.
I have tried looking at that. I thought it might be the directory name generated by Flare, as that is mixed upper/lower case, but changing that made no difference.
I will delve deeper into which files Flare is using.
The odd thing is that it's not all the micro content items that I've added that are affected, only a few so far.
That's why I wanted to nail it down before I add more.

Not super familiar with the Linux VM use case, but in general, whenever I run into these types of issues it's something to do with the way the server is caching files.

Good idea, but I've been completely blowing away the content on the Linux machine, before replacing it each time and still the problems occur.

I've been trying all sorts of tweaks to synonyms, which has had some effect - tending to make the results more fine tuned on Windows & Apache and worse on Linux. Will try to get back to testing this more later.

The issue is now with Madcap Support and they are troubleshooting the issue as well. Any updates and I'll post here.
