Release notes for 2019 r2?

Post by ChoccieMuffin »

Hi all

I can't find the release notes for this new version released today (9 Oct 19), can anyone post a link please? Wasn't in the place I'd expect it to be.

Thanks

Hi Choccie Muffin,
I couldn't find any earlier, so I've already pinged support.
The knowledge base only has details of the new features (most of which are irrelevant to me) and no updated release notes.

I'm sure many of us want to check whether any of the outstanding bugs have been fixed before we upgrade to 2019 r2...
Cheers!

I see a bug I reported got fixed, but I didn't receive their notification email as promised.

I didn't receive an email either. I only knew about R2 when I launched Flare and a popup told me.

Thanks. They weren't there yesterday! :D
I wish the release notes were more than just a list of bug titles but included a bit more description, as some of them are pretty cryptic and you can't see what else was logged with the bug. Oh well, nobody ever produces release notes that satisfy everyone...

And judging by the number of issues people are already reporting, I think it'll be a while before I install it.

Nope. They definitely weren't. :D

Me too, despite one of the issues I reported being fixed... :(

Build 15.1.7283 was released today (12 December 2019):

https://kb.madcapsoftware.com/Content/F ... _Notes.htm

The list of fixes is considerably shorter than the previous build (Build 15.1.7216). I can't do an upgrade now but I'll probably try it out next week.

Still haven't installed 2019 r2 here yet, there seemed to be so many reported issues. Hoping that someone who's installed the latest version will come on here and report that all is well. Any takers?

The Word import is still broken for me (inconsistent treatment of Word styles) so I can't install it. I've got an open Tech Support case so I'll update here if that ever gets fixed. I'm hopeful, but not holding my breath.

Someone mentioned above that there are quite a number of issues being reported for this new version. I'm wondering where I could see that? I didn't see anything here in the forums? Is there a thread I have missed?

I'm asking because I've just done a test build with r2 and noticed that all converted glossary entries in my HTML5 tripane output now appear to cause some sort of line break or increased line height which really looks rather unpleasant. Are styles handled differnently in this version? Has anyone mentioned that anywhere?

Also, why can I not evaluate the new version while continuing to work with Flare 2019? It used to work like that. But this time Flare 2019 was overwritten during the installation of Flare 2019 r2. When I just decided that I would continue to work with Flare 2019 I had to deactivate and deinstall Flare 2019 r2 before I was able to install Flare 2019 again. Is it no longer possible to use both versions on the same machine?

I don't think there is a single thread that contains a list of problems people have experienced with 2019r2, sadly, as questions have just been asked throughout the forums. And just as sadly, there are a lot of problems.

I agree with your annoyance, and the reason you can't have the previous version and this version together is that this new "thing", with all its massive changes, is classed as an UPDATE to 2019, rather than a new version. I'm experiencing a similar pain in the company I work at re updates vs new versions (so I have a bit of sympathy with Madcap) but it's a rubbish way to implement such a huge change. So again, no help or advice, just lots and lots of empathy, as with the IT "security" setup here I have tons of hoops to jump through if I want to uninstall and reinstall Flare.

Thanks for the info, ChoccieMuffin, much appreciated. Since we are also in the software business I can relate and empathize as well, but this version vs update thingy does mean my evaluation of r2 will have to happen in even smaller pockets of time than usually. Luckily I can install/deinstall freely, all I need is the extra time to do it.

Anyhoo, I have reported a bug for the converted glossary items problem and look forward to finding out how that came to pass. :)
