I know these were a pain to find to add to the skin, but now I want to find the logos and am having a helluva time.
Is there a way to see _where_ in explorer the image is located that is used in the skin??

Re: location of images in skins
Skins are weird! The images in the skin aren't stored in the explorer and linked like in topics etc, but are stored in the skin file itself as binary. If you open the skin file as text, you will see a bunch of code that represents the image. I'm sure that you could retrieve the image from the binary somehow, but the only way to change it is to upload a new image to replace the existing one.

Re: location of images in skins
Ugh! This is not ideal. I was hoping to set up a global project with skins and CSS shared across multiple projects. However, each project needs to have its own logo. The only way I can think to accomplish that is to point to a file outside of the skin—as long as each project uses the same file name for it's logo, it should work.
BUT, I can't do that if the logo files are saved within the skin!!!
Also, I'd like to point to an SVG, which the skin won't allow me to import.
Also, also, I can't figure out how to delete logos once they've been imported into the skin. The skin file is getting pretty bloated from all the different logos people have added over the years.
Why are skins like this??

Re: location of images in skins
You can delete logos from a skin by opening the skin as text, then locating the "Resources" and deleting the ones that are no longer needed. There's a feature that is supposed to delete unused icons when the skin is saved, but I haven't found that very reliable.
I honestly do no know why skins are like this, I've been messing around with them recently and keep finding myself switching over to the stylesheet whenever I run into the skin's limitations (actually, maybe you can use the stylesheet to override the logo in the skin? Something to consider for your case).

You can use CSS to override the image used by the skin, so it uses a local image in your project - which can be a SVG file.
It's been discussed a few times - for example see: viewtopic.php?p=131923#p131923
