Hi,
I'm using Flare 2019 and I have a glossary definition for two terms: "unknown" and "cluster". I would also like to have a term for "unknown cluster" but the glossary definition appears in my HTML5 output only for the single terms and not the two words together. Does anyone know how to get around this?
Thanks!
Glossary not showing definition for 2 words together
Re: Glossary not showing definition for 2 words together
Hi,
- Do you have all 3 terms entered separately in your glossary file?
- Which conversion option do you have set in your HTML5 target? Open the target file and check the "Glossary" tab if you need to.

Hi,
Yes, I have 3 separate entries in one glossary as follows:
- unknown
- cluster
- unknown cluster
My HTML output file is set to 'Convert first occurrence of term".

Re: Glossary not showing definition for 2 words together
I retested with the "convert first occurrence" option set, and Flare definitely created separately links correctly in HTML5 output. Perhaps Flare 2020 fixed that issue with 2019?
I would suggest:
I would suggest:
- Create a brand new project, enter just your glossary terms, and test out the HTML5 output with a single topic. Does the problem persist or disappear?
- Try altering your "unknown cluster" entry to "unknown-cluster." It might help Flare detect that the term is different from the other two.
- Worst-case scenario, set your glossary option to "Convert only marked terms," then manually insert all of your glossary links.

Re: Glossary not showing definition for 2 words together
Thanks Gene, I've fixed it now. It turned out to be a rogue condition on one of the glossary entries that caused the issue.
Here's what I did:
1. Created a new project, added the 3 terms to the default glossary and in the test HTML5 topic, all entries were picked up correctly. 2. I added the same 3 terms to the default glossary in my project and changed the HTML5 output file to use that glossary and it also worked correctly. So...seemed to be an issue with my glossary file which contains 48 terms, most of which are conditioned. Then I realised that the term 'unknown cluster' had a suspicious condition against it which meant it was excluded from the output; hence why unknown + cluster were treated as 2 separate definitions. I removed the unnecessary condition and it now works perfectly.
Thanks for the pointer!

Re: Glossary not showing definition for 2 words together
Glad you got everything resolved, and thanks for following up with an explanation of what the problem actually was!
