OneDrive Fool Me Once...

Post by GDonn »

So, I learned the hard way a couple years ago to only work on a local drive with Flare. Storing and working with Flare projects on a server or any cloud-based application is a nightmare. But I didn't know the extent till I got a new company laptop and had to save files somewhere so I could retrieve them later. So, I uploaded all of my Flare projects to OneDrive and once I got the new laptop, I downloaded to its desktop. Easy-peasy right? Wrong! I discovered that the folders on OneDrive didn't upload everything. Most of my Flare projects on the new laptop are missing image files and a few are missing random .flpgl, .flsnp or .flcss files. So now I'm in the process of figuring out a better means of transferring these files. I suppose I'll have to try using a flash drive but IT encrypts anything attached to a machine so that it can only be opened on that same machine.

Has anyone encountered an issue like this when trying to back up Flare projects to OneDrive? I'm beginning to think that doing anything between Flare and OneDrive is just a lost cause.

Can you try zipping the entire project? There's an option on the Project tab of the ribbon. I haven't checked, but I think it zips up everything it needs to generate an output, but doesn't zip up the output itself. Think it also doesn't zip the Analyzer folder either. Anyway, give it a try and see what happens. That should be a bit more robust. Good luck, and let us know how you get on!

I was able to move everything onto a flash drive. The encryption policy has been changed so all I needed to do was delete it from the drive and I was able to get everything moved. Nice to know so I now have that removable drive to use as backup. I'll definitely try zipping a project to move to the cloud as well. If that works OK I'll have another backup.
