alternative source control options

Hello
We use git repo for our source control with Flare. My colleague set up a login and password for the account and up until recently our method for moving projects had been fine. Recently, she received the message "the credential method you just used is going to be depreciated soon."
Two questions, in multiple parts:
1) What does this mean and how can we resolve it within MC Flare?
2) How can we connect MadCap to our Git repo using the new token authentication. If not possible-- what other free & easy to use source control methods can we use?
