Micro content vs. snippets

Hi all,
I will use the new Flare version in a few days and now I´m trying to figure out the differences between snippets and micro content in single sourcing projects?
I understand that micro content stands on top when showing a result searching list but is this the only big benefit?
It is important to teach my new colleagues the differences between changeable topic templates, read-only topics with 100% reusable content, snippets, convert-to-text template snippets and now in addition micro content.
