Source Control issues related to branches

Editing my original post since I can't find a way to delete it.
When I create branches & do commits in MadCap, it seems to run along fine until something suddenly happens. Then it'll slow everything way down. A fresh re-bind seems to help, but then I lose all of my history.
I've been testing with copies of my project for the last 2 days and it seems like it's related to having the bound project open at the same time a local 3rd party bound program is open. Or, even when the directory itself is open.
I can't for the life of me figure out what happens that suddenly makes the commits & checkouts go so painfully slow.

For what it's worth, once a project gets into that slow state, it seems like commits & branch checkouts go slowly even in the 3rd party program. Maybe it's something I'M doing.

Any tips on managing source control branches in Flare would be helpful. Specifically about branches.

We don't use Git within Flare. We experienced too many issues, some along the lines of what you're describing. Also, we don't store the local files in a location that OneDrive, Google Drive, etc back up.
