No skin on landing page

Post by janeanderson »

Hi, I'd really appreciate some advice please...

I have a help system with approx. 100 topics currently using Top Nav skin. We would like to change that to a landing page (index.html) that has no skin, just logo at the top, search bar and then boxes with links to other pages. All the other 100 topics need logo at the top, search bar and side navigation.

Is it possible to have no skin applied to index.html and a skin applied to all other pages?

I thought about using template pages, one for index.html and one for other topics with menu proxy but the menu proxy doesn't expand and collapse as it does with side nav.

Would you suggest creating 2 projects? Project A containing only the index.html and no skin with links to Project B containing other topics with side nav?

I'd be most grateful for any advice :)

Although you say "no skin", if you still want to display the header logo and search bar, then they're part of the skin.

So if you want the skin header but not the Side Navigation menu, then you could hide that on the landing page.
To do that, see this post: Hide Side Menus from a Topic (landing page) in SideNav skin

Thanks so much for your advice - that sounds great. I followed your post in the link but have fallen at the first hurdle and don't seem to be able to find <nav class="sidenav-wrapper"> in the HTML for my index.html. Please can you help?

You don't need to find it.

That <nav class="sidenav-wrapper"> tag only exists in the built output files, so you won't see it anywhere in your project.
In the output, that <nav> tag contains the side nav menu.

So the solution is to add some CSS (for your landing page topic only) that will hide that <nav> tag in the output.

Code: Select all

nav.sidenav-wrapper
{
   display: none;
}
