PDF Publish Output Reverting to Previous Versions

Post by ms_nezbit »

The PDFs in our online doc center are not reflecting the latest published versions. When we first publish the dates are correct, but by the next day it is not reflecting the current version. The versions that are showing are anywhere from the previous week to six months ago. We publish weekly. Everyone who opens the PDF is seeing a different version. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to the inconsistencies in versions.

The option in the target to Remove Outdated Published Files is checked.

Has this happened to anyone else or does anyone have any ideas on what could be causing this or how to fix this?

Have you asked the folks that manage your online doc center?

Presumably your online doc center is hosted on a web server, so I would check with the folks that manage that server, and ask them why users could be seeing old versions of files.

It sounds like it could be due to caching - the cache can be local to a user's device/browser, and the cache can also be on the server-side (which might not be apparent to users).

For example, we have Cloudflare software on the server-side that caches files, meaning that some files that I upload might take 3-4 hours before they're available to users (refreshed in the server-side cache), and other files might be available in seconds.

You might also check what URLs people are using to access the PDFs - are they actually using the same URL, or are there differences in captialisation or canonical/alternative URLs?
