Shared resource folder / Tips to make outputs smaller?

Hello! We have a software product that includes 12 versions, and there's a HTML5 help included for each version. Each help output uses many of the same images and topics with conditioning.
Mainly due to images, the total size of all outputs is quite large. The size is 1/4 of the total software install. We want to try and reduce the size of all help outputs so that the software install is quicker.
With this in mind, we were wondering whether it's possible to have a shared resource folder. As each help output contains a unique set of images, we figured that each output would be a lot smaller if they derived the images from a shared folder -- rather than using a unique image for each output.
Additionally, do you have any other tips to try and reduce the size of your outputs?
Thanks so much!!!
