Automatic "In This Topic" content

Post by RFox »

Our legacy HTML output has a small In This Topic section on the far right that contains links to all subheadings in the page currently displayed.

Somehow it no longer displays any subheadings - just the In This Topic heading followed by an empty text box.

I'm not even sure where to look to find the solution. Any help is appreciated.
TIA

The way to set this up in current versions of Flare is to insert a menu proxy, and set it to display (Headings).
That will generate a menu of the headings in your topic.

See the help: Creating a Topic Menu

Thanks but as I wrote - this is legacy content so if it's done using a menu proxy, it's already there.

And the In This Topic section with a title appears but without any headings underneath.

Ok, but if you want to fix it, you need to check your project and tell us how it's currently implemented. Does it use a menu proxy or not?

If it does use a menu proxy, then:
* Edit the menu proxy to check its settings - like the number of heading levels it's set to display.
* Check what skin the menu proxy is using, which can be set in the target or the menu proxy settings itself.
* Are any conditions set on the menu proxy, and could those conditions be excluded from your target/output?
* Are any styles/CSS set on the menu proxy that might stop it being displayed?

Also, if it worked before, then what have you changed?

Sorry, but the more I investigate, the less I understand what's going on. I'm not even sure if it's using a menu proxy or where to edit a menu proxy.

There are at least three other writers working on various releases in the project so it's impossible to know what's changed.

I guess I'll have to contact Madcap.

Thanks for your time.

FYI: This was in the CSS. I looked in the history and didn't find when it was changed so I have no idea how it worked before and when it stopped working.
