Failed to run command 'Start Page'

I'm getting back to Flare after not using it for a couple of months. When I started v3.0 this morning, I got an error popup, complaining of a failure to run 'Start Page'. I knew I needed to upgrade to v3.1, so I proceeded to do that, hoping the problem would go away. But when I start 3.1, I still get the error.

Failed to run command 'Start Page'.
Exception:
The specified module could not be found. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007007E)

This error doesn't seem to impede use of Flare. From past postings on this forum about similar errors, this seems to be related to a problem connecting to MadCap's site to display the latest messages. I'm assuming Flare is just rather touchy on startup. Any comments on how to get rid of the error, without affecting other tools I run on this box? Or should I learn to live with it?

Try resetting your window layout. I think that brings the Start Page back. If it does, then close Flare and reopen it. If the error occurs again, then reset the window layout, close the Start Page tab, shut down Flare and restart it. It should open without trying to open the Start Page.

Resetting the window layout generated the error below. I've reset the window layout and closed and restarted Flare several times, but each time, the start page comes up with the original error. Once I got the error below trying to close the start page.

Guess I'lll just get used to dismissing the original error. After a minute or so, the startup News and Update messages eventually do display.

I would recommend that you uninstall Flare and reinstall Flare, to see if this correct this issue.

Yes, it looks like the Flash Player Plugin is installed.

So was it the Flash player disturbing Flare to start properly?
I have a customer reporting the same error: Flare can be started with a double-click on the project, but when starting with a double-click on the Flare icon on desktop, this error appears.

I don't know what was causing the problem for me, but it has long since gone away (most of this post is from early December 2007, one year ago). No more errors on startup with 3.1. Guess it's time now to upgrade to 4.0 and see what that brings!

Thank you marilynd for your answer. I've recognized, that the problem occured about one year ago, but my customer has this problem now. So i thought, you might remember the solution, because it was not documented in this thread. I am not sure, if upgrading is an option for my customer...

Sorry I don't recall exactly when it started working and what might have changed to help.
FWIW, 4.0 had a little hiccup the first time I started it, but after shutting down and restarting, it seems fine.
