installation issues of Flare - invalid hostname

Post by richard.bartlett »

Hello

\"Invalid URI: The hostname could not be parsed\" etc etc and installation aborts .....

Does anyone else get this issue when they try to install flare, it doesn't matter if its 3.02 or 2.52 I still get the same problem.

Any recommendations on how to resolve?

I am using windows XP SP2

I would reinstall your Dot Drivers to see if that corrects the issue.

I have the same "can not parse URI" problem.

I'm on an Intel-based Mac. XP SP2 is running within a Parallels 3.0 virtual machine. I have reinstalled the .NET 2.0 framework three times. No luck. I've also shut down, walked away, given the code a chance to consider the error of its ways, then returned, uninstalled, and started all over. Still... <monstrous, heaving sigh>

Is there anything else I can try?

Note: I had previously installed Flare 3.1 on a Bootcamp/Vista partition. From there, I could run Vista and Flare successfully from within Parallels. However, Vista keeps, um, dying on me, so I am "upgrading" to XP.

At what point in the install does the issue arise? I run Flare in Parallels at home, and it works fine.

Neal,
Glad to hear from another Mac person!
It seems that the installer nearly completes the process. The blue status bar is filled when I receive the first error message:
Invalid URI: The hostname could not be parsed.

After I click "OK", I see this:
An exception occurred during the Rollback phase of the installation. This exception will be ignored and the rollback will continue. However, the machine might not fully revert to the initial state after the rollback is complete. --> Invalid URI: The hostname could not be parsed.

One more "OK", and this is displayed:
The installer was interrupted before MadCap Flare V3.1 could be installed. You need to restart the installer to try again.

Coincidentally (or not), I also had problems trying to install Flare in my original Vista VM. It always hung towards the end of the process with this error message:
The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2869.

Is there a Parallels setting that I can adjust? Kaspersky is installed, but turned off during the installation attempt. No other apps are running.

I was able to install Flare without problem when I created a Bootcamp partition for Vista, which I then set up as a Parallels VM. As I mentioned earlier, I've just had problems with Vista and am looking to move to XP. I didn't want to wipe out my existing Bootcamp partition just yet, though, which is why I wanted to do everything within Parallels.

In any case, I highly recommend the upgrade to XP. It seems that Microsoft got a handle on all the driver and stability issues in XP that exist in Vista. Also, Microsoft did a great job in improving XP performance, it is about 1/3rd faster than Vista.

hahah....sounds like a new operating system this new XP one.
If you submit your bug feedback request here, the more likely it'll get fixed or included in a future release

Yea, it really works out great for Microsoft. The sales of Vista were down and even noticeably reduced Microsoft's quarterly results, but now with XP many people say they instantly switch from Vista to XP. No other Windows version was so easy to sell to consumers and business users. Vista really just got a lukewarm response, but XP is welcome with open arms. People who went from Windows 2000 to Vista now make the next upgrade step right away and go with XP. I read that Microsoft stops selling XP on June 30th, but I think that was a misprint, they for sure meant they sell Vista on June 30th and donate the leftover CDs to sports clubs for skeet shooting practice. Apparently the supply of old AOL CDs is dwindling so these clubs need some other source of garbage CDs and rumor has it that Microsoft came forward and offered the Vista disks. I just wonder what might happen, given how well Vista works the disks may jam the catapult.
