Variables in breadcrumbs and other issues

Is there any sign that variables will be fixed any time soon? They work OK in general use, but try to use them with any slight degree of complexity you'll find things break down. Issues I've come across are:

breadcrumbs - the variable is omitted from breadcrumb trails in child topics (the variable is present in the parent topic)
character styling - apply a character style that spans a variable and the variable will not take on the style change.
links - variables aren't converted to link text on output
TOCs - variables only work in TOCs if you use the special format [%=variablename%]

I'm sure there are other issues. It'd be nice to know that these are being looked at for a forthcoming release.

Hopefully this issue will be corrected in the next version of Flare,
