Creating a new topic template
Creating a new topic template
I set up a "Content" folder in "My Templates", as instructed. I then created a topic with the formatting that I want to use for all topics, built the project, and copied it in. When I try to create a new topic, Flare doesn't seem to know about this. How can I create and save a topic in such a way that it is used as the template for all new topics? This is the first step in creating a full list of templates. As soon as I work out how to do it for topics, I can do it for everything else.

Re: Creating a new topic template
If you've set it up correctly, when you add a new topic select My templates on the left and your topic template files should be listed on the right.
Also, I'm not sure what you mean by "I then created a topic with the formatting that I want to use for all topics, built the project, and copied it in".
All you need to do is create the topic in the editor, then save it and copy it to the My templates/Content folder. There's no building involved.

Re: Creating a new topic template
I did that, and copied the file into My Templates/Content. I've now created a new project, created a new topic, and it takes no notice of the settings in the topic that I saved as a template, and gives me the Flare default settings instead.
I've been using help authoring tools since early RoboHelp in 1995, and this is the first one I've used that's so difficult. I have to provide a demo of a few topics in a couple of days' time, and I suppose I'll just have to use the Flare default settings instead of the format and styling that I want.

Re: Creating a new topic template
When you created the new topic, did you choose the template on this screen?
In my MyTemplates folder on my C: drive, QNewTopic.htm is the only file in there (that I created and put there).

Re: Creating a new topic template
In the end I had to create another project, and that worked.
