non-breaking variables
non-breaking variables
Hi, I recall that in FrameMaker I didn't have to worry about variables breaking at the end of a line. Is there any way to prevent a variable from breaking at the end of a line and wrapping to the next? I have a variable that is the product name, N-central, that is breaking on the hyphen. Thanks. Linda
Re: non-breaking variables
The only way I can think of doing it off the top of my head is to create a span (or generic) class and set the white-space property (under the Block group) to "nowrap". When you insert the variable into the topic, apply that new span/generic class to the variable.
I don't know if that will actually work, so test it, but in theory it should work.

Thanks Lisa, I will try this and let you know.

Nope, doesn't appear to work. Thanks for the help. I will log a bug for this. Linda
Re: non-breaking variables
Good afternoon,
I am having the same difficulty described above by livetoski. My variable, which is also a product name, is breaking across lines and being hyphenated. Has anyone discovered a solution for this one?
Thank you,
SDilg

Re: non-breaking variables
No they haven't solved this, but we have a solution. It may have come from Flare, as we were very concerned about this. Put the following style into your style sheet and apply it where you don't want a break:
p.nohyphen
{
mc-hyphenate: never;
}
Work around, really, but there you go.

Fantastic, I will go with that! I really appreciate your help!
