Batch conversion of non-XML files in existing Flare project?
Batch conversion of non-XML files in existing Flare project?
I am trying to import topics from an existing Flare project, which wasn't created by myself, and the creator isn't available for consultation. First of all, I need to add the topics that appear in the TOC, but not in the Content Explorer, to the Content Explorer. When I open the missing topics, I receive the message asking me if I want to convert it into XML. (Before you ask, yes, this is a Flare .flprj project, not a RoboHelp one.) I don't know why they aren't XML files, but is there a way that I can tell Flare to convert all non-XML files into XML without having to either (1) convert them all manually, or (2) manually find and identify the non-XML files, which would take so long that I might as well convert each one manually anyway?

If you have Madcap Analyzer then it can convert all of your topics to XML, If the topics were already created in Flare than you would not need to convert them. You should be able to copy them from One Project to another project via windows file explorer.

Thank you for the help, but we haven't got MadCap Analyzer, and I'm not going to get it in the next two days, so I'm going to have to open, check, and convert everything manually.

Re: Batch conversion of non-XML files in existing Flare project?
Just to be clear about this, you don't need to convert these files in order to build your project.
If they're just normal htm files, then you can copy them into your project (using Windows Explorer) and set up links to them in the TOC without having to open any of the files.
The files will also use your target's default master page (if you have one).
As the topics don't seem to be from a Flare project, then they will have to be converted to XML if you want to open them in Flare - but that's only if you need to open and edit the file.
