BLARE

Post by Skooter »

When is BLARE being released? You know, FLARE with page layouts and staight to PDF etc. - or, you know, BLAZE which lets you output to online help formats etc.
Since the user interface is practically the same I was hoping this little fantasy of mine might become a reality. Wouldn't it be annoying to have to purchase both products and keep switching from one to the other? Better option would be some sort of Blaze add-on to Flare (or Flare add-on to Blaze). Still, I'm sure you clever people at MadCap have already realised this...

Blaze and Flare or Flaze

Post by Richard Ferrell »

Flare v4 will be released this summer, most of the functions of Blaze v1 should be included into Flare v4.

FWIW, my understanding is that Blaze 1.0 is essentailly a subset of Flare 4.0.

But what will be the relationship between Press and Flare?

Yep... according to the Blaze demo I attended last week, Blaze is a subset of Flare 4. The Flare product will include ALL the functions of Blaze.

And I agree with your general sentiment: I really wish they would hurry. Flare is shaping up to be a kickin' single-source, topic-based help solution, but it needs PDF targets. I don't think I can buy it until then. :-(

Anyone want to share rumors of exact release/beta dates?

Careful what you wish for. "Hurried" software is usually not the most reliable stuff in the world. Much as I'd love to see Flare 4 tomorrow, I for one would rather not see it before it's ready to play.
Until next time....

I believe that anybody who might know enough to spread an accurate rumor would probably be under a strict NDA forbidding sharing of such information. So my guess is that we'll all have to wait until MadCap makes an official announcement.

I'm excited to hear about it, though. I'll upgrade to Flare 4 the day it comes out! I'm ready for it!!

I was trying to come up with some sort of joke to use the name FLAZE but... it just wasn't happening.

Flame?
The complete Madcap BONFIRE package?
The Madcap Conflaguration?!?

:-)

Summer starts on June 21st! Heh heh.

I know that for "logistical reasons" I definitely can't buy Flare until I can verify that the PDF output will meet our needs... but I'm fairly certain it will.

Looking forward to it,

Oh, man, this is taking me back to my video days... discreet logic used to sell products called Flame*, Inferno*, Smoke*, and Fire* (and yes, the asterisk was part of the product name... even showed up in the splash screen.)

Just tell me you're not going to start naming products after colours. I've seen waaayyyyyy too many things named "Red" or "Blue" or "Purple"....

I was thinking more along the lines of a great big ray-gun that I could direct at those who have earned my wrath, but I suppose a single-source solution for shredding would be an acceptable compromise.

If you follow a similar logic, it will be Prare, and if you add Blaze into the mix, you get Bless or Praze. Divine intervention anyone? :D

The answer I was given when we posed the question at time of decision and purchase (end of June) was 'two months'. Barring any disasters, that should put it about August, perhaps September. Of course, I am not in a beta, not in the company, etc, so feel free to take this with a grain of salt (or a block as may be required).

Oh, and in relation to the 'other' topic in the thread - It seems to me that Flare and Blaze are well set to smoke out any competition, set the technical communicator's world afire, and burn down the skeptics. Nomex®, anyone? (looks at Adobe and chuckles)
"I" before "E" except after "C" or when sounded as "A" as in 'neighbor' and 'weigh'.

Actually, that raises an interesting question:

Does anyone know if a closed or private Beta of BLARE/Flare has begun?

Obviously NDAs mean folks shouldn't talk about potential release dates or future features or any of that jazz... but can we know whether or not the product is in beta yet?

That would be juicy news for the Flare groupies, or for those in the same "can't buy yet" boat, like myself.
