A new problem happened this last week. I had to change all of my nested snippets to individual snippets because the nested snippets didn't work. As I did that, I set "screen only" conditions and
'print only" conditions.
I did this on many many files.
I did not go back and look at the files after I made the changes until today. The screen only settings are gone. My User's Guide jumped from 600 to over 1100 pages. I would not have been surprised to see that I missed a few in my change over; however, they are all missing.
What could be happening?

Re: screen only condition settings missing
How did you make the change? Did you do a global find/replace, or did you do it in the individual files?
Have you checked your target settings to ensure the proper condition restraints are applied at the target level? (Just because you say "print only" for some text and "screen only" for other text doesn't change anything unless you exclude/include those settings in the target itself. These aren't set by default.)

Re: screen only condition settings missing
Find a topic you know should contain screen only content. Open it in a text editor, such as notepad, notepad++, or the internal text editor. Find content that should have screen only conditions added. Check the condition is still there and not "".
Once you have done that make sure you have set your screen only in the target as always show and the print only (or whatever) to not show.

Re: screen only condition settings missing
The targets had the conditions set correctly.
I have 8 snippets that were combined into one snippet for printing and one snippet for WebHelp. The combined snippets quit working for the screen only dropdowns.
I had to remove the combined snippets and replace them with 16 individual snippets in each topic. When I added the individual snippets, I set the print only and screen only conditions. For some reason, 90% of the condition settings disappeared when I did my next build of the print product. My output went from 650 to 1200 pages.
I tried to make the condition settings at the snippet file level. It did not work.
In order to get it to work, I had to set the condition in each topic by selecting each snippet individually and setting the condition.

I went to individual files to make the changes.

My targets have the appropriate settings.
I found a comment about adding hyperlinks making the conditionals disappear. This could have been my problem because I was also adding hyperlinks.

Only the conditional colors disappear in the XML Editor, if you have those markers turned on. The conditional tags themselves were still in the page code -- you just couldn't see them anymore from within the XML Editor. But it sounds like yours were removed from the page code altogether, which is definitely a worse problem.mitches wrote:I found a comment about adding hyperlinks making the conditionals disappear.
