Question Marks displaying in TOC for chm file

Post by spweeks »

I am creating an online help project for our Japanese market. All is going very well with the exception of ?'s displaying in the TOC of the chm file. When generating the TOC, these do not appear. It is only after the chm is generated that they display. Any help with this would be GREATLY appreciated. :)

Thank you!
Sonja

Try setting the Local of the machine you are compiling on to Japanese, before you run Flare. An easy way to do this is to use the MS AppLocale utility from http://www.microsoft.com/globaldev/tools/apploc.mspx

Hi,

Here's some additional information on how to compile Japanese .chm files on a non-Japanese machine:

Thank you both for that information. Unforunately that did not seem to correct my problem. :( I have developed online help for the Chinese language and did not have this issue. I don't know why it is just happening with the Japanese online help.

It does work. We do help in Simplified Chines, Korean and Japanese with no problems providing all the encoding is correct and the locale is set up. Check in the hhp file to make sure that the language is set to Japanese.
