Strange little line

I'm trying to add a header to my documents which are output to Word. The header is simply a table with one row, two columns and text on the far left and far right, but I'm getting a little blip in the horizontal line where the column separator is (see below):

I can't seem to get rid of it, nor can I find a way to achieve the same result without using a table. Can anyone tell me what I need to add/remove or how to achieve the same results without using tables?

Fixed it! (trial and improvement)

I had "padding: 2px;" in my main style sheet table declaration and it was overidding my header table.
