Flare doesn't launch MImic

I have Mimic installed and registered with a valid license key.
Launching Mimic stand-alone works without any problems.

When launching Mimic from a Flare project (Tools - Launch - Launch MadCap Mimic) Flare displays the following message:
"Your copy of MadCap Mimic has not been activated with a valid license key".
So it is not possible to launch Mimic or to insert a movie link.

Why Flare doesn't recognize the Mimic license key? Any ideas?

Hi Christine,

What version of Flare are you using? All I can do is offer my sympathy. I had the same problem when trying to insert a Mimic file in a Flare 3.1 project. Nothing worked.

Hi,

I have Flare 3.1 and Mimic 2.0 (both licenced), and can launch Mimic from within Flare without any errors.
Note, this was tried just to open mimic, not with a specific mimic file.

Awfully strange. I too have Flare 3.1 and Mimic 2.0, both licensed, and haven't been able to launch Mimic from Flare or add a Mimic link in Flare since the day we purchased Mimic. Flare support even set up a couple of remote sessions to poke around in my computer and eventually gave up. To this day, my Flare 3.1 and Mimic 2.0 remain dead to each other.

The same with me: no improvement up to now.
It's very amazing, but on the computer of a colleague (same system, same flare and Mimic versions) Flare and Mimic work together without any problems.

I would recommend that you have Mimic 2.0 open at the same time you try to create the link in Flare, This has worked for other customers that have reported this issue.

Tried it long ago, with no success. Perhaps it'll work for Christine. I hope so. It's no fun purchasing a product you can't use.

Changed to Flare V4: hurray, it works!
(But that's no real solution, isn't it?)

Congratulations, Christine. I'm happy for you. Our CIT department doesn't want us using v4 until the first service pack is released, so I'll have to wait and hope for the same results. It's depressing, though, that MadCap has given up on solving this issue in 3.1.

What a terrible attitude! If a software provider just uses hot fixes (their software is that good its bug free ) ) you'd never get to have it. If a provider releases x.1 a week after X it's yours. Crazy

Just tell them that 4.0 really is the first service pack to 3.9.
I agree with Steve, the IT department really shouldn't have any say in which tools you use. Their responsibility to to buy what you need and get installed on your system, but not prevent you from doing your work.

Guess I'm sort of caught in the middle: unable to use the new release, unable to find anyone who can explain why my fully licensed and registered Mimic 2.0 won't work with my fully licensed and registered Flare 3.1.

Consider me a variation on Kafka's Gregor Samsa.
