Disabling annoying indicators while typing

When I type in Flare, there are always two boxes hovering above my cursor--a white one with the letter "i" and an orange box with "(text)" in it. Clicking these buttons produces a context menu displaying options that I do not yet understand.

My question: how do I prevent these boxes from appearing? They are most distracting and annoying.

Those tags display if you have "Show carat tag neighborhood" set. This option can be found in the Tags menu button on the local toolbar (looks like a <t>). Search for "caret" in the help for lots of information about the different display tags.
