Font size in Related Topics pop-up box

Post by evanarsdall »

I know that I have seen plenty of posts on the subject of changing aspects of the Related Topics popup box, but I can find nothing that specifically addresses the font size. What style changes the font size in this box? I thought that Popup or Popup Body might fix the problem, but they don't.

I have changed the background color, but the font is really small and barely legible.

If you're inserting a text popup, then it's the font-size property of the popupBody tag you want to change.

If you're inserting a hyperlink that opens a topic in a popup window, then that's something else.

Which effect are you trying to do?

In my project output, if I click on the Related Topics link, the topics in the popup window appear in a very small font. They're hard to read. I have already tried popupBody, and it doesn't change the font size of the listed topics.

Man, I have got to start reading these posts more thoroughly.

You mentioned popup and popupBody and that's what I focused on, but Related Topics doesn't use popup and popupBody. It uses helpControlMenu for the background and helpControlMenuItem for the text.

I tried editing the font size for the helpControlMenuItem yesterday, and it had no effect. I have even blown the size up to 150%, but the size still hasn't budged.

In a brand new test project, I tried setting the font size to 100%, and it was fine. That was with the body set to the default size of 9pt.

What size is your body tag set to?

Did you try setting the related topics font size to a fixed font size, like 12px? Did that display correctly?

It's set to 100%. This problem is pretty bizarre.

To date, I have not been able to resolve a nagging problem in this one project: the font size of the topics listed in the Related Topics popup is so small that the names are illegible.

Here's how the popup list looks. Compare it with the size of the Related Topics link and you'll get the idea:
teeny-tiny-links.png
I have never had this problem in any other project. I have edited the popupBody and popupHead styles, and currently their font size is set to 100%. I have increased the size up to 150 just to try and identify the origin of the problem, but the size renders exactly as shown in the image, regardless of what I do. It won't budge.

I'm hoping that this is something minor that I'm overlooking. I welcome suggestions.

There's a large gap at the top and between entries, too. I don't think this should matter, but do you have anything odd set on the <h1> style in your topics? Or anything odd in the <html> tag? Are you using a masterpage?

Does it happen with all the Related Topics effects in this one project, or just the Related Topics that are pointing to those two specific topics?

Lisa, I'm not sure what you mean by "anything odd." I haven't set anything for <html>, and <h1> just has routine stuff: font color, size, and weight, a bottom border, and some bottom margin and padding settings.

The problem is global to the project. Every time I click the Related Topics link, the popup font looks like the example in the screen shot.

I am using a master page. It has three proxies: breadcrumbs, topic body, and mini-toc.

If you have a maintenance contract, I suggest you send the project to MadCap Support, if you're allowed to. I can't think of what else to suggest you look at, so someone needs to look at the entire project to see if they can track it down.
