Glossary Convert Exceptions?

Post by egag21 »

I have a 200+ topic system and I've automated the Glossary feature by enabling "Convert first occurence of term". Let me just say this is an awesome feature! I have a minor problem, though. One of my terms is the acronym "CO" for "Coordinator" and another is "CD" for "Children's Director". Now there are a few places where CO occurs but stands for Colorado instead. In the same way there are places where CD stands for the more conventional "compact disc". Is there a way to mark these instances so that they don't get convered by the automated Glossary process?

Hi!
You can use the "mc-disable-glossary-terms" style property to prevent Flare from creating automatic glossary links. You will probably want to create a span style class so that you can mark just the words you don't want to convert.

To create a span class:
* Open your stylesheet.
* Select the span tag.
* Click Add Class.
* Type a name and click OK. I named my class "noGlossaryLinks."

To set up a style to disable glossary links:
* Open your stylesheet in the Advanced view.
* Select the style.
* Change the mc-disable-glossary-terms property to true (it's in the Unclassified style group).

To apply a style class to a word or phrase:
* Select the word/phrase.
* Select the style class from the style list in the drop-down style list in the formatting toolbar or from the Style window.

hope this helps,

A hack you could try is inserting an empty tag in the middle of the term (I've done it, it works). For example, if you want to exclude an occurrence of the term "banana" you could insert, say, an empty <i> tag, like this:

<p>I would like to buy you a ba<i></i>nana split.</p>
