Inserting Images into Expanding Text

Post by jblackwood »

We sometimes insert images into Expanding Text. Since we installed v4, we do not seem to be able to do this anymore. Does anybody else do this? If so, have you had the same problem?

Thanks!

Did anything ever come of this query? It's been almost a month.

I'm still using Flare 3.1, and I also include graphic items (usually PNG images) in dropdown and expanding text (been doing it since RoboHelp). So this'd be a good reason to not "upgrade" if it's a widely experienced problem.

Can the original poster indicate if the problem also occurred when updating/replacing graphics that were already embedded in expanding text?

I think it depends on how you insert the expanding text. I was able to do it in a test project by putting the cursor on a blank line and then going to Insert > Expanding Text, then click Ok to go with the default text. In the topic, it had the cursor in the block to be expanded, so I inserted the image there and the expanding text effect worked.

However, if I entered text and an image and then selected them, the expanding text option was grayed out from the Insert menu. Seems to me like it might have always been like that, although I'm not positive, since I don't use the expanding text feature.

I got it to work though I have to go about it a little bit different than I did prior to v4.

Thanks!

I often put screenshots in drop downs. But I've always found the paragraph spacing between drop down and ordinary text a bit flaky, so I create all the text and insert any images and only then to I format it as drop down. If I have any problems editing it subsequently, I unbind it, make changes and refomat it as drop down. That worked for me in v3.x and now in v4.

I haven't tried images in expaning text though.

Are we mixing expanding and drop-down?

They both have their little persnicketynesses (like that word? I just made it up), but we should probably make a clear separation when we discuss symptoms and workarounds, so as not to confuse the next reader............ or me.

Cheers,

I am able to insert images into both drop-downs and expanding text in v4. I admit I haven't really played with expanding text much in my project, but drop-down text definitely works fine with images in my experience. After testing the expanding text, it seems to work with images as well, whether I make them part of the link or part of the text that expands.
