Topic Review Errors

Post by tomjohnson1492 »

After a reviewer receives a topic I sent him (by going to File > Review), he makes a few annotations and tries to send it back to me. But when he clicks Return to Sender, he gets an error message. (Sorry -- I don't have the error msg in front of me and forgot to write it down.) Is anyone having any trouble with reviewers sending back topics? We're both using Outlook.

Also, when I get the topic back, my images are missing. Where the original code said, ../Resources/image.jpg, the reviewed topic's image code shows Resources/img.jpg. Hence the file is missing.

I am also having this problem. Not only are my images disappearing, but the stylesheet is no longer linked to the topic once you accept the reviewed topic in the project. Is this a bug or am i missing some setting?

Also, once someone reviews a topic and you import the reviewed topic...there is no way to highlight the changes they've made. Are we just supposed to blindly accept changes from our reviewers without being able to toggle and see what they've done? Is there some way to highlight the changes I'm not aware of? I thought this would work closer to "Track Changes" in MS Word.

I had trouble with the stylesheet link disappearing in previous versions, but I haven't experimented with it long enough to see if I still have that problem. I think it too is a matter of the ../ being removed before the Resources folder in the stylesheet link.

Re not being able to see the reviewer's edits, yes, this is a major flaw and it's why I would never send the topic to another person to edit directly (just to review). I always force them to simply annotate their edits. I don't want to blindly accept changes. Also, I want to know if the reviewer has actually made any changes. Comparing the original with the reviewed topic line by line is insane.

The reviewer tries to send a topic back to me and sees an error saying mapisvc.inf can't be found. Of the three reviewers using X-edit, two receive this same sort of error in sending the file back to me.

Yes, I also thought it would be at least something like "Track Changes" in Word. This feature is the one and only reason we got the okay to explore alternatives to RoboHelp after buying it only a year ago. Between not showing what edits have been made (although I suppose you could make the editor annotate every change) and only being able to accept the whole topic and not the individual changes, I'm afraid that my manager will nix an upgrade to Flare.

If anyone has any other suggestions on how to use the Review feature, I'd sure like to hear them.

Also, can anyone tell me why there is "Accept Topic" and "Accept Annotations"? I only tried Accept Annotations once, but it didn't seem to do anything. (Could just be a user problem.)

Thanks,
deb
