"Medium (default)" Doesn't stick
"Medium (default)" Doesn't stick
I've just installed Flare 4 and the numbers in my numbered lists are off the screen to the left side. From the topic toolbar, if I select "Medium (default)" then the numbers are brought back onto the screen. When I open a new topic, this setting is "Medium (non-print)" and I have to change it to the default.
How can I change the setting so when I open the topic, the setting is set to "Medium (default)"?
I've compiled the help and the help looks fine, it's just in the WYSIWIG editor that I have this problem.

Re: "Medium (default)" Doesn't stick
Update:
Hmm, OK looks like it's a problem with my stylesheet with the numbering going off the page. In Firefox it looks fine but in IE the numbers go off the page.
But still, how do you get that Medium to stick?

Re: "Medium (default)" Doesn't stick
I'd be interested to know if your view type is changing as well. Flare 4 should pick the CSS media type based on the view type that it is displaying. So if it is displaying the printed page, then it should use the print media in the stylesheet. If it is displaying the online page, then it should use the default media in the stylesheet.
My guess is that you change the view type and that should "stick" as you open other documents in the project.

Re: "Medium (default)" Doesn't stick
The medium and stylesheet are working together properly as you outlined, Paul.
I fixed my style sheet so the numbers don't appear off the screen in the HAT. But the medium still doesn't "stick." If I set the medium to "non-print Medium" then open another topic, it opens to the "default" medium.
I'm actually finding that what appears in the Flare WYSIWIG, in the preview, and in the compiled help are all different. Let's see if I can give examples w/o breaking an NDA...
Here's the formatting in the WYSIWIG with the "non-print" medium applied. It appears "normal": Here's the formatting in the preview. the step extra is indented too far: Here's the formatting in the compiled help with the non-print medium selected for the target. The whole list is indented much further than in the WYSIWIG:

Re: "Medium (default)" Doesn't stick
Can you post the part of your style sheet that includes the following elements in both default and online styles:
p, ul, ol, li
You're right; that seems bizarre. I wonder if the style sheet will tell us what is going on.

Re: "Medium (default)" Doesn't stick
I'll post the style sheet... in text here because I can't post the file.

Re: "Medium (default)" Doesn't stick
The first thing I noticed is that you have a margin left of 15 for both the OL and the LI elements. Those are added together, so you're getting 30 pixels indent for your content that is in both <ol> and <li>. Try removing the 15 on the OL and leaving the 15 on the LI and seeing what happens, or try adding all 30 to one or the other, rather than having the style apply to both.
Re: "Medium (default)" Doesn't stick
Also, I don't think you really need the "non-print" medium. I've never used it, in fact. If you keep the online and the "shared" styles in the default medium and print-specific styles in the print medium, then you should be fine. By shared styles, I'm referring to anything that is the same for both online and print.
So far as I know, the non-print medium doesn't correspond to any of the specific outputs so you'll never see the effect of its styles except when you change the print medium view in the topic.

Re: "Medium (default)" Doesn't stick
Ok! Thanks Lisa and Doc_Guy. I will do both of these things.

Re: "Medium (default)" Doesn't stick
I've adjusted the OL so it has no left margin and I've set the LI left margin to 15px.
It's fine in the compiled help, but looks strange in the WYSIWIG and Preview. I'm not sure why - perhaps something with the software?

Re: "Medium (default)" Doesn't stick
Hmm. That is weird.
I'd just remove the margin-left on the OL. Don't set it to 0. Let it be "default" by removing it completely from the style sheet and then set your additional indent in the LI. See if that changes anything.

Re: "Medium (default)" Doesn't stick
Hey, I tried to set it to "not set" in Flare but it didn't work. Kept going back to zero. I open the style sheet and deleted the margin-left and this set it to "not set." But the WYSIWIG and preview still have the same problem.
