Connecting Layouts with Mediums

Hi,

Hoping someone can clear this up for me. When I double-click a topic in the content explorer, it opens with Layout (web) Medium (print) set in the task bar. When I change the layout to Layout (web) Medium (default), save, close the topic and reopen it again, the layout changes back to Layout (web) Medium (print).

The funny thing is that this only happens with Layout (web). When I change the layout to Layout (print) and Medium (print), save it, close the topic and reopen it, Layout (print) Medium (print) is there.

I want to associate the Layout (web) with Medium (default) and Layout (print) with Medium (print).

Any thoughts on how or if this is possible?

EDIT: Figured out that the layout that opens depends what you have set as your primary target. When I have the primary target set to MyHTML help and open a topic, the layout is automatically Layout (Web) Medium (default). This is fine, but another problem has appeared:

When I have the primary target set to MyPDF and open a topic, the layout is Layout (Web) Medium (print). The question now is why when the primary target is MyPDF are topics opening with Layout (Web) and not Layout (print).

Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated...

Just in case you haven't already, please confirm that the Output Type for your PDF target is PDF.

I see this behavior as well, and I think it is because I switch back and forth between Layout modes. I think that Flare remembers what was the last layout mode you were using, so that when you quit Flare, then re-open it and open a new topic, the topic opens in whatever layout mode you were using last.

At least, when I use print layout mode as my last mode, and then exit the app, and come back in to a topic, the print layout mode is displayed.
