I'm using Flare 4.0 to re-import a Frame project (for the first time since installing 4.0) and am getting the following errors:
In hypertext marker (type 'XRef'): File '../../../../../DAB/foldername/User Guide/Member Information/MemberInformation.fm' is missing from disk or is not referenced in the book. FrameMaker Import C:\DAB\foldername\User Guide\Getting Started\Getting_Started.fm
Any ideas what causes this error? I can't figure it out.
Thanks,
Diana

Re: Reimport from Frame gives "In Hypertext..." error
I get a bunch of these (maybe 10-12) when I use reimport, but no errors when I import as part of the build. The files are there and FM is happy, so...?

Re: Reimport from Frame gives "In Hypertext..." error
I'm getting the same error. I actually deleted all cross-references out of the offending file and the messages stopped. When I added the links back in, the errors started happening again. In the built target, the links work properly, but I'm concerned about spurious errors that can "just be ignored". When you get enough of these, real errors start becoming hard to find when they occur.
Thanks,
Kristen

Re: Reimport from Frame gives "In Hypertext..." error
I take back my last post. I've been prototyping for a few hours now, and the behavior of Flare and the offending links it complains about is inconsistent from build to build. Currently, the links show up as incorrectly formatted cross-references that don't link anywhere. Earlier, they seemed to be working as designed.
What's interesting is that I haven't changed anything about these specific links but I did change my autonumbering for headings - it's probably unrelated, but it seems like I was unable to get these links to work properly once I forced Flare to suppress the autonumbering, even when i re-enabled autonumbering.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Kristen

Re: Reimport from Frame gives "In Hypertext..." error
Are there any mif files in your Frame directory? I've struck problems in the past where xrefs are unresolved in Flare if you are linking to another frame file, and that file also exists as a .mif in the same directory.
Re: Reimport from Frame gives "In Hypertext..." error
Aha! I do see a number of MIF files along with some LCKs and a couple of folders called [filename].mif.mifimages, none of which was in the directory earlier today. Looks like FrameMaker isn't exiting gracefully some of the time. Deleting the MIFS did the trick. I left the mifimages folders in place, but I'm not sure that's wise.
Great tip, Greg! Thanks for your insight.

EDIT: In my case, the root cause of the problem was actually a handful of images that had been imported by copying. When I imported the Frame source into Flare, I got several MIF errors about "Missing Dimension". I was able to track down the offending images in the Frame source files; reimporting them by reference stopped the "Dimension Missing" error from occurring, and when the MIF files were no longer having problems, Flare was able to generate the webhelp with working links. I'm still getting the "...is missing from disk or is not referenced in the book" error but the compiled webhelp system works as expected.

Re: Reimport from Frame gives "In Hypertext..." error
This was the case up to a point, but now I fear the "missing from disk" problem is causing me issues - it's a little convoluted, but essentially, auto-numbering isn't being applied properly when the paragraph occurs in tables in topics referenced by the "missing from disk" error. MadCap Support is working with me on the problem, so when I find something out I'll post again.kkelleher wrote:I'm still getting the "...is missing from disk or is not referenced in the book" error but the compiled webhelp system works as expected.

Re: Reimport from Frame gives "In Hypertext..." error
Well, I still get the errors, but after a lot of digging around and some back-and-forth with MadCap Tech Support, it really does seem to be a completely harmless and spurious message. My auto-number problem was caused by a defect in Flare where paragraph styles used only in tables in Frame aren't picked up during import. I can trick Flare by applying the Frame tags to paragraphs that aren't in tables, but I somehow missed this one style.
