WebHelp output generates "Runtime Error"

Post by MHP »

Hi folks

Using Flare 3.1. Viewed with IE, my WebHelp generates the following message:

ERROR
A Runtime Error has occurred
Do you wish to Debug?

Line:675
Error: Syntax error

Obviously, I can work around this by tinkering with the IE settings (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822521). However, I'd rather not have to tell our clients to do this  .

Is there a fix?

Cheers

Are you using any custom scripts? or dynamic elements that weren't created by Flare (i.e. imported from Robohelp or Dreamweaver or some such)? This isn't something we've seen from other users, so I would suspect a problem in an actual script that's included in the web help.
Until next time....

No custom scripts.

Another error message indicates problem is in /skin/toolbar.htm

(Thanks for responding so quickly!)

I have investigated further. The same issue appears for other projects.
Problems with this Web page might prevent it from displaying properly...(etc)

By any chance, did you modify any of the toolbar tooltips and/or label to be blank? I reported a bug awhile back related to these and it affected output in IE6 (the output was fine in Firefox as I recall). Let's see... If I recall correctly, you couldn't have a blank label field -- it at least had to have a space in the field. And the tooltip field couldn't be blank or have a space, it had to have at least a period. If you edited either of those fields and didn't have at least something in the field, then it screwed up the display of the toolbar. I don't think I got an error, though -- I think either the toolbar was missing or was too big. But that was only playing with those two fields -- if you've modified some of the other fields then it might result in the error.

If it happens in numerous projects then either you modified the toolbar settings in the Flare program folder, or the Flare program folder got corrupted, or you copied the skin file from one project to another after you had modified those fields, so the problem was inherited by the other projects.

Hopefully that'll help to narrow down where the problem may be.

Thanks! Actually I've resolved the issue by using the debugger and guessing how the Java maps to the Skin settings.

The problem was in the skin, namely in Styles/ToolbarItem/Logo/Properties/Basic/OnClick.

It turns out that the setting really does want a JavaScript and not a URL.

Deleting the URL killed the bug.

Thanks folks.
