Today's fly in the Flare ointment is:
A dozen or so Flare TOC entries link to imported DOC file bookmarks instead of Flare topic files, which it failed to create for some reason. That is, instead of the link defined as Content\<importname>\<topicname>.htm#<TOCbookmarknumber>, the are defined as file:///<yada>/<yada>/<sourcefile>.DOC#<TOCbookmarknumber>. So, these books and topics in the HTML Help target are empty and show the standard IE "cannot display page" error. Ctrl-clicking the TOC entry in Flare starts the Import Microsoft Word Wizard, but the file has already been imported, which created the TOC in the first place. One particular group of these entries are associated with a new section of text that I pasted into the DOC file from a different document. But, the headings are the same as in the rest of the document, which imports fine with its own topics and TOC entries. I've double-checked the heading styles and they are correct to create topic files like the rest of the document.
Why aren't these paragraphs importing as topics?
TOC entries linked to DOC bookmark, not topic file

I've seen this before but not recently (pre v4), so I can't pin-point the exact cause. Check the Word document again for cross references or hyperlinks in the heading, and for any field codes on the heading as well.

Re: TOC entries linked to DOC bookmark, not topic file
Follow-up.
It looks like an issue with v3.1 (and earlier) that has been fixed in v4.
If you have an entry in the Word TOC that says "Error Bookmark not defined" you will get the problem. If you update all fields, or at least the TOC fields, before you import it should work OK. Maybe Flare 4 does an update first?

Re: TOC entries linked to DOC bookmark, not topic file
The problem has resolved itself, it appears, for the time being but might have been related to a custom Word macro that was setting the Address property of automatically inserted hyperlinks to the document name instead of leaving it empty.
