Spell check not working in Flare V4

Post by dalewood »

I just discovered that Flare spell checking is not working in Version 4.

Neither the automatic spell check nor a manual speel check of the current document is working (i have no red squiggles). I had just installed Flare on a new Vista 64 bit system and checked my whole document and should have come up with many, many words not known to this new machine. I even just typed in a few mispelling and got nothing.

Does Flare V4 need something extra to enable spell check? Seemed to work fine in V3.1. Anybody else run into this?

Try turning UAC off in Vista just for testing. I found that with UAC on 90% of software currently available does not work, but with turning UAC off it magically starts working, just with half the speed as under XP.

User Account Control (UAC) is already off.

This is a known issue for Flare that Spell Check will not work on 64 bit OS, We hope to have this corrected in a future version of Flare.

Hi Richard -

Thanks for the answer.

Is this a Flare V5 type of fix, like I should fall back to Flare V3.1 or perhaps to a 32-bit O/S while waiting for the next major upgrade?

This should be fixed in a Service update that is due out soon, (Don't ask me the exact Date, The MadCap gods will get mad) but it should be sooner than later.

Expected in Autumn? (I like the seasonal calendar, makes life easier than counting days)

The Spell Check in Flare v4.1 has been fixed, The issue was that if you had a 64 Bit version of XP or Vista, the Spell check would not work correctly, It seems that some of the Code From Lingo that Flare uses didn't have this feature enabled. so Flare v4.1 We fixed it!

You southern hemisphere types confuse me. Did you mean your Autumn? Or MadCap's autumn? Well, I suppose the point is now moot, but still.... :)
