image caption question

Post by alaltenburg »

how do I "attach" a caption to a picture? When I have a picture in the center of the screen, the caption is placed under it. I adjusted the picture so it is positioned to the right, and the body text wraps around the left. How can I position the text so it is under the picture, instead of within the body?

Thank you,
Andrea

You need to group the picture and its caption inside a DIV, then set the DIV to float-right or whatever.

I originally had the picture and caption set up in a div, but when I would right or left justify, it just sat there and did not move. Is there something I could be doing wrong?

Right and left justification only affect the text, not the positioning of tagged elements. (Remember this is XML / HTML, so it doesn't operate the same way as print applications like Frame or Word - it follows web-design rules.) What you'll need to do is apply a Float attribute to the div. There are a couple of other threads active at the moment that discuss how to do this.
Until next time....

Thank you very much. I am new to xml/html. I will mess with the floating and go about it that way. Thank you.

Hi,
I put the next feature request to MadCap:

It would be nice to set a caption for pictures.
Maybe an extra tab at the Media properties.
The caption should align left, middle or rigth, according to the width of the picture even if the outputs need different sizes.

So, if the picture has a width of 10 cm, the center of the caption should be at 5 cm
If the same picture is set to 6 cm for PDF output (using the Media properties), the center of the caption should be set to 3 cm.
It should make no difference what the alignment of the picture itself is.

If you agree then do the same to increase the chance of implemetation.

Hello,
I sent a feature request for captions as well. I have been feeling like I'm the only one who uses captions the way I've been having so many problems with them.
