Indexing: Level 1 keywords jump to first level 2 topic

Post by Dab »

Hi,
Is there a way to have the top level keywords in an HTML Help index not respond to double-clicking?
For example, in this index section:

deleting
---destinations
---folders
---pages

when I double-click 'deleting,' I see the 'Deleting Destinations' topic.

Thanks 8),

Hi, Debbie,

I think this is happening because only the "Deleting destinations" topic contains the level 1 "deleting" keyword. If you were to add this keyword to the two other topics then, when the user double-clicks it in the Index tab, a Topics Found dialog box listing all three topics should appear.

I believe your options are rather limited because, as I understand it, Flare always embeds index keywords in the individual topics instead of storing them in a separate index (.hhk) file. If the latter were the case then it would be possible to dissociate the level 1 keywords from all topics. You could even set up these keywords as "self-referential" keywords, which causes them to display the prompt "To locate information about this keyword, please select one of the subentries in the list" when clicked.

Thanks, Pete, for the reply, but all 3 topics under 'deleting' include that keyword. The index keywords look like this:

deleting:destinations

deleting:pages in a job

deleting:destinations

Hmmmmm...
Thanks!

You'll need to also add a separate item that just includes deleting. From you description of your entries, all three of them are compound entries. If you want the parent, you need to add entries that contain just the parent. So you would need to do something like this:

deleting
deleting:destinations
Until next time....
