Quickly building an index

Post by ccardimon »

Robohelp provided a way of generating a quick-and-dirty index I could fix later on. RH gave me an index I could use if I needed to publish on short notice.

What is Flare's equivalent? If I want to quickly build an index in Flare how would I approach it?

Take a look at Creating Auto-Indexes in the help; they explain it better than I can.

I have not used it yet, but it seems to involve using an Auto-Index Phrase Set. Then you use an index proxy (if your output is for print media) to collect it.

You can also add index markers manually.

It was not clear whether this process would actually insert markers into each topic where there was a hit. I also wonder if you could use multiple auto indexes if you were doing some complicated single-sourcing.

if you use the Auto create index feature basically you need to add phrases that you want flare to look for. and what the index word should become so if you add car in your phrase and then tell it to add it to the index term Car it will basically look for everything that has car in it and make an index term out of it.

Its a very quick way of doing it, but as i would say its abalistic missle you have no idea what your hitting with it. So your index might become one giant mess. You will only see the result after you built the project so only use this for common words that are not often used otherwise you will shoot yourself in the leg with an index that is way too cubersome to read.
