Applying Page Layouts to Specific Topics

Post by ryan »

Hello everyone, this is my first post of I am sure many. I am trying to replicate our FM template in Flare and have run into a problem with the Master/Layout Page --> document relationship. I have created a page layout with right, left, contents, and title pages. However, I can't seem to be able to assign content to specific layout pages. I also cant get the title page to show up in the output, and I can't add text on the title page.

1. How do I assign the position/order of the page layouts within the document (i.e., put the title page at the beginning of the document)?

2. How do I assign content to specific layout pages (TOC show up on the "Contents" page)?

3. How do I enter text in the grayed-out body frame on the title page (doc title, version, date)?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi Ryan,
Page layouts work with TOCs. To set up your print target to use a page layout:

* Right-click a TOC book or page and select Properties.
* Select the Printed Output tab.
* Select Start a new chapter document.

The page layout will be used starting from this point in the document. If you select "title" as the Page Type, the selected TOC entry will use the title page and the following TOC entries will use the normal page type.

One more tip: If you set the chapter to auto-end on the 'left' (even) page, Flare/Blaze will insert the "empty" page if needed to start the next chapter on the correct page. For example, you can set up your empty page to include the text "This page intentionally left blank." If your page layout doesn't contain an empty page, Flare will insert a blank page.

The grey body frame in a page layout represents the content in your topics. If you want to add content to every page, click New Frame and select New Decoration Frame. You can add anything you want to your decoration frame, including text, images, and variables.

hope this helps!
