Locating all hyperlinks

Post by Mette Nyberg »

Is there a way to locate all your hyperlinks in a project? I would like to check that I have set all my former hyperlinks to cross-references. I am just not sure if it's the hard way, i.e. looking in all topics?
Any ideas?
One more - is there a way to search the Content organizer to locate a specific file?

Yes. Perform a search of the source code of your files for "<a href". This should point any hyperlinks you have (cross-references do not use "<a href"). It's not pretty, but it should work.

Yes, but again, it's not pretty.

If you have Windows XP (from memory, but it should be close):
- In Windows Explorer, navigate to your project's Content folder and highlight it.
- Right-click, select Search.
- Enter your file name. Should be able to find it.

If you have Windows Vista:
- In Windows Explorer, navigate to your project's Content folder and double-click it.
- In the Search bar at the top right of the window, type your topic. Should find it.

Note that this will usually find text within topics as well, so it may return related topics along with the topic you want. Like I said, it ain't pretty.

I've submitted a feature request to MadCap to include more robust searching options for finding topics, snippets, variables, etc. in a variety areas, as it is critical for those of us with many thousands of topics. You can ask for a feature for finding topic titles too by going here:
https://www.madcapsoftware.com/bugs/submit.aspx
The more who request features, the more likely it is we will see them in a future release.

If you know the file name then you could open the File List view -- that lists all files alphabetically.
