Hi
I have a large WebHelp project. When the WebHelp output is called from the application, sometimes the string length of the path-plus-html file name exceeds the Windows maximum, so the development team have asked me to shorten the folder and filenames as much as possible.
Using Content Explorer, I carefully went through all the folder names and file names and shortened them. I did this the "legal" way, getting a Link Update dialog each time there was a dependency, and I duly clicked the Update Links button. After over 800 topics and over 200 folder names, I found that there were many many broken links inside my six Tables of Contents. So I scrapped the project. That was with Flare version 4.0. I now have the latest greatest version, and have started the process all over again - this time I'm checking every change in the main TOC: it seems to be fine! Was this a known problem? I don't want to spend another day doing this then find that other links - like hyperlinks - no longer work!
Any comments?

It is for sure a known problem as you are not the first one to report it. In how far it got fixed in the latest patch is difficult to say for me. I haven't heard or read that this is definitely fixed nor can I tell from own experience.

Thanks for the info - I'll wait a while longer before retrying this on the whole project! Is there a published list of known bugs, their fixes, and/or workarounds?

Re: Renaming folders and files inside a Flare project
Hey Phil,
I'm 90% certain I encountered this bug while using 4.1.
Actually, I'm glad to find out that this is a known issue. I thought I must have done something wonky.
Fortunately, links within topics seem to update fine when renaming folders and such. It was the Table of Contents that got screwed up for me, too.
