Content Explorer files not alphabetized
Content Explorer files not alphabetized
Content Explorer is not alphabetizing folders and files, in Flare 3.1 and 4.1. I can't find any setting to change this. Does anyone know how to make Content Explorer alphabetize? Thanks.

Re: Content Explorer files not alphabetized
I believe that Flare uses the same ordering as Windows Explorer does for the same folder. So if Windows Explorer is set to sort files some other way (by date, by size, etc.) then Flare follows along.
Until next time....

Re: Content Explorer files not alphabetized
I have this issue. I updated my laptop to 4.1. My desktop is still running 3.1. It happens on both. Windows Explorer shows the folders/files sorted by name. I can't find any setting in Flare to change the order in the Content Window.

Re: Content Explorer files not alphabetized
I tried to replicate your problem but my installation of Flare will only display the files in alphabetical order. I sorted the files by size, and then tried by date, in Windows Explorer. I tried changing explorer and closing and reopening Flare but Flare persisted in alphabetical listing.
What order is Flare showing your project files in the content explorer?

Re: Content Explorer files not alphabetized
The files are displayed in Flare in the same order that I get when I go to a DOS prompt and do a DIR. Perhaps that's the order in which they appear in the actual directory table on the disk.
Changing the order files are displayed in Windows Explorer doesn't appear to have any effect on how Flare displays them. For example, if I:
1. Exit Flare.
2. Click on Date Modified in Windows Explorer to sort the list by date.
2. Run Flare and open the project.
The folders and files continue to be displayed in Flare as always, in the DOS DIR order.

Re: Content Explorer files not alphabetized
Hi Bwhitt,
Welcome to the forums.
Intresting - the standard sort from the command line is by date modified. When I test the command dir is as you suggest, but in the content explorer it sorts by name. (You can sort from the command line by using the /O:N switch). I wonder if it is something to do with the regional settings on your machine? I'm at a loss as to what else to suggest...

Could you supply us with a screenshot showing that issue? Maybe it helps getting ideas.
Re: Content Explorer files not alphabetized
I've had that happen to me (not sorting alphabetically). After clicking in the Content Explorer, I pressed F5 to refresh the view, and then it sorted correctly/alphabetically.
Re: Content Explorer files not alphabetized
Sorry, got distracted with other things for a few days. I tried F5. No effect. See the attached screenshot.
One strange development is that a few days ago I noticed that the files in one folder were alphabetized! However, the next time I opened that folder, they were back to the jumbled order. Don't have a clue what made it change.

You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
Re: Content Explorer files not alphabetized
Is your project on your local computer or a networked drive? If it's a networked drive, maybe something there is controlling the list order.

Re: Content Explorer files not alphabetized
I have seen the issue if the project is on a network drive or In Source Control, Flare uses windows explorer for the file names, its not possible to change the order.

Bingo! Lisa and Richard win the prize.
Just got off the phone with tech support where we both kind of figured it out at the same time. I am using Network Attached Storage. I opened a copy on drive C and it was sorted just fine.
Thanks for all your help.
