Hello,
Would like to know if there is a way to have a global glossary and just select the entries you need to appear in your project. We have a problem where we are trying to consolidate all terms and definitions used in our documentation. normally it's through a wiki, but with Flare now, it would make more sense if there was a global glossary that we could edit and have it reflect across all projects. Wondering if this is possible, or if anyone has a similar use.
Thanks!
Is it possible to have a Global Glossary?

Sounds like a great idea for a feature! Lodge a request here.
You can use multiple glossaries so a workaround might be to have a generic glossary that contains your common terms and a specific glossary for each of your builds containing the 'specialised' terms.

Re: Is it possible to have a Global Glossary?
I've put in a request in the past (I think) asking for the ability to apply conditional tags to glossary terms. I don't have my glossary terms in the topics, just in the glossary pane (or glossaryProxy), so I'd like to be able to condition out the terms that don't apply to specific versions of the output. Not the same thing as the global glossary, but if you've then "imported" ("linked") the term into a project, you might also want to condition it out in certain circumstances, so you might want to mention that in the feature request, too.

You could make a Flare project with just the glossary in it and import it to the other flare projects that use it so that you have one centralized place to edit it. As you can have the glossary be updated every single build it should be relatively easily. You can find this functionality under the import in project organizer.
Re: Is it possible to have a Global Glossary?
I'm not referring to having the same glossary across all projects. As it is right now, it would insert (via the glossary proxy) all the terms and definitions in the glossary, you know? What I mean is a centralized glossary which you can link to and select the items from it you want to use in your document or webhelp. This may not be useful to others, but would help those companies who struggle with syncronizing terms and defs across the document set. I've put in a request for it. If anyone else could use it, please do the same.wijnand wrote:You could make a Flare project with just the glossary in it and import it to the other flare projects that use it so that you have one centralized place to edit it. Yeah. You are thinking one step ahead and you're right. having the global glossary is fine, but then conditioning those terms is a question. I'll mention it.LTinker68 wrote:I've put in a request in the past (I think) asking for the ability to apply conditional tags to glossary terms. You can't put condition tags on glossary entries, or even parts of them, can you? (It would be great if you could.)

Re: Is it possible to have a Global Glossary?
It's not possible as far as i know. But this mention of condition tags refers the request for a Global Glossary mentioned above, and then the ability to condition the entries you would like to use. This is not possible right now, but would be a nice feature. Submit a request also if you agree.Cecily wrote:You can't put condition tags on glossary entries, or even parts of them, can you?
