Keyboard Shortcuts for Applying or Unbinding Styles?
Keyboard Shortcuts for Applying or Unbinding Styles?
Three questions:
1. As I am pasting and modifying TONS of old HTML articles, is there a keyboard shortcut for, "Apply the last style I just applied?"
I've noticed that when the Styles panel is open, the last style I applied is bordered in orange, as if Flare is anticipating that I might want to apply that style over and over... which made me think there might be a keyboard command to evoke it.
2. Is there a keyboard shortcut for "Unbinding"?
To remove a style, I have to click on the bar, select Edit, then select "Unbind". I sure wish I could hold down a keyboard combination and click on the bar of the style I want to unbind and have it just drop away. That would be so much quicker!
3. Any OTHER advice on speeding up the removal and/or addition of style elements?
Thanks!
-Douglas

I think it's highlighting the style of the tag you're currently in.beagley wrote:I've noticed that when the Styles panel is open, the last style I applied is bordered in orange, as if Flare is anticipating that I might want to apply that style over and over...

Re: Keyboard Shortcuts for Applying or Unbinding Styles?
Nope, it is not highlighting the style of the cursor location.
It is highlighting the last style I applied. With an orange box. The style stays highlighted as I click in all kinds of places on my topic.
There may NOT be a keyboard shortcut for applying it, of course. It just seems like there must be, since the programmer went to the trouble of putting in the highlight.
(For clarification, I am referring to the "Styles" panel that appears when I press F12)

Re: Keyboard Shortcuts for Applying or Unbinding Styles?
A quicker way to unbind things: if you have the View > Show > Caret Tag Neighbourhood option turned on, when you click on a word the tag groups that apply to it are shown as boxes surrounding the cursor. You can then click on the appropriate box to get a context menu of functions you can do to that tag (i.e. unbind, select, etc.)
Until next time....

Hi Douglas,
You can use Shift-Ctrl-H to open the Style Picker dialog box. If the style you want to use is already highlighted, just press Enter. Otherwise, you can type the first letter of the style (for example, "h" for h1) to quickly select a style.
As for unbinding, you can right-click anywhere inside the link or content and select Unbind. That might be easier than clicking inside the block bar.
Those aren't quite keyboard shortcuts, but they might help speed things up for you.
hope this helps!

Uhhh, really? Not on my copy you can'tscott wrote:As for unbinding, you can right-click anywhere inside the link or content and select Unbind. That might be easier than clicking inside the block bar.
I can unbind if I right click on a block indicator, but not if I right click in the text - I get a different context menu than the one with Unbind as an option.

Hi Kevin,
It should work fine. You aren't using Flare v1, are you?
You need to right-click inside the link or content to see the menu I mentioned. It works for drop-downs, expanding, and toggler links.

Re: Keyboard Shortcuts for Applying or Unbinding Styles?
Ah, guess I misinterpreted what you meant by "content." To me, "content" is anything between any tag set (such as p, h1, li, etc.) I believe the OP is looking for a way to unbind any style, not just specialized ones (tho' I could be wrong....)
Until next time....

Re: Keyboard Shortcuts for Applying or Unbinding Styles?
I ran into a similar challenge when importing an MSWord doc with multiple tables. All table cells were formatted with <p> bound to <td>. Here's the way I was able to unbind all the content in a table's cells at once:
1) Select the table rows and columns.
2) Right-click and select "Cell Content Style."
3) Pick the appropriate style (in my situation, it was <td>), and click OK.
All table cells now are formatted with the base style.

OMG, thank you. I have a massive table full of <p> tags to convert.1) Select the table rows and columns.
2) Right-click and select "Cell Content Style."
3) Pick the appropriate style (in my situation, it was <td>), and click OK.

I suggest that you look into buying a copy of Find & Replace (FAR HTML) to help you strip out old HTML tags quickly. I use it extensively when I'm bringing old RoboHelp projects into Flare.

I think that keyboard shortcuts for styles would be an awesome feature for a future version of Flare. If you agree, post it as a feature request to MadCap:
