Positioning Tables?

Post by wrowsell »

Does anyone know how to position tables? I have styled a table using a table style and applying a style in the standard stylesheet in the stylesheets folder.

I have tried adding a left hand margin to the style but it has no effect. I had applied a o margin value to the body style. Does this overide other styles?

I await anyones thoughts.

Hi, William,

You've just run into one of the inexplicable things about Flare - for whatever reason, when you use a Table Style it inserts inline formatting into your topic regarding the positioning. Since inline formatting is closer to the content than your CSS file, it takes precedence. This means that the topic ignores anything you have in your CSS.

The solution is to open the topic in a text editor and remove the inline formatting from the table tag. (Altogether now: "ewww, that's ugly!")

It's not just when you use Table Styles -- it'll happen if you don't use a table stylesheet but do specify the positioning elements (e.g., center or default) in the insert table screen.

Good rule of thumb is, when you create a table, set its position to left. You can always tell it to center the table later, if you want, but if you tell it to position the table left, then you'll be able to use left margin values and such without worrying about the inline styles.
