Changing hover, active link colors in a WebHelp skin

Post by todd.richardson »

Hi,

I'd like to change the color and background values for TOC and other links in my WebHelp skin, but I can't seem to find these properties in the skin editor. Any direction would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Which do you want to change? There are properties in the Styles tab of the Skin editor to change the AccordionItemand the Frame, as shown here:

So, if you want to modify the AccordionItem background color, you go here:

But if you want to change the frame background color, you go here:

You can see how those settings are applied in the first image.

And, btw, that is not my normal background color. I was just verifying that the property changed the way I expected it to in the frame background. I'm setting it back to white right now!

Sorry the images are so big. You may have to maximize your screen to see all the text. Or you can right-click on the image and select the view image option.

I should have made them a bit smaller. Oh well.

Thanks Paul. I should have been more specific - I'm referring only to the links that appear in the TOC accordian. For instance, how would you change the background value for the active TOC link (gray by default, as shown in your first image - Topic A). How would you change the hover color?

Thanks.

Oh. I don't think you can change that. At least, its not an easy change. Other people have requested the ability to do this.

The reality is that you can change this in the Flare source code, which changes it for ALL outputs. And when you upgrade Flare, you have to make the same change over again. Plus the change is in the writer's box, so you have to make the same change for every user of Flare. So like I say, it's not pretty (nor supported by MadCap).

First thing to do is log a bug that you can't change it.

Next, search the forums to see if you can't find other references to this topic, because I think somebody already posted about this and how to modify the source code to make this work. I'm on a deadline for work again, so I'm not able to break my Flare trying to fix this right now, but maybe somebody else knows off hand how to make the change under the hood.
