Don't break on page break

Post by Jan Jursa »

Hi,

is there a way to mark two paragraphs or other "stuff" not to break on page breaks?
Let's say I have paragraph A and following paragraph B. In a print layout I want them to be ALWAYS on the same page.

Thx.

I use a div tag for this. I created a class called div.KeepTogether and set the 'page-break-inside property' to "avoid". Then I select my two paragraphs I want to keep together and select Group from the Format menu or press the tab key - then select div.KeepTogether from the Group dialog box. It works really well :)

Just a caveat, this should work for outputting directly to PDF, but it probably won't work for Word. This is because the Word output ignores Div tags. (I don't know if FrameMaker output targets have that problem as well.)
Until next time....

Yes, sorry. Kevin's absoluetely correct, that won't work in Word. I go straight to PDF because I got tired of Word ignoring half the CSS and doing its own merry little thing.

I second these suggestions. I need/want to keep all sorts of things together, so I built a special div.KeepTogether tag and use it liberally.

Also, I gave up trying to go first to Word and then to PDF. I have enough gray hair already. So now I've been going right to PDF and haven't had too many problems.
