Where do Favorites live?
When I mark topics as favorites in IE, they aren't available in FF and they disappear when I rebuild (I think). Where are they stored? How many favorites can I have?

The favorites are stored under each user profile: in Vista C:\Users\<user name>\favorites.
Each time you build you are creating a new file so it may well 'disappear' from favorites.
I don't think there is a physical limit on the number of favorites, but it could well get out of hand if you have too many - information overload etc.
Rirefox does access the IE favorites - its under the menu item bookmarks -> from internet explorer.

Re: Where do Favorites live?
Is this the same as Favorites in the WebHelp skin? (When I look in the Favorites directory (on WinXP), there aren't any from this year...) I'm wondering where the WebHelp Favorites go when you mark them...

Re: Where do Favorites live?
That doesn't work for the favorites within the WebHelp output, does it? That sounds like you're talking about the Bookmarks pane in Firefox output.SteveS wrote:Rirefox does access the IE favorites - its under the menu item bookmarks -> from internet explorer.
The favorites information in the WebHelp output (accessible by clicking the Favorites accordion button) is saved into cookies, and each browser keeps its own set of cookies. So if you mark something as a favorite in IE then it won't appear as a favorite in FF until you manually select it as a favorite when you're viewing the help in FF.
The build might blow out the favorites if you're viewing the help in the output folder and save the favorites from within there, because the cookies are associated with that "website", and every time Flare builds the output it clears out the folder, so that might delete the favorites cookies. Although I thought I tried that a couple of times and it didn't delete them unless I cleared all cookies using the browser tools.
