Opening particular Bookmark with out any other matter
Opening particular Bookmark with out any other matter
Hi
I am facing the following problem. I have a single html file with bookmraks. I point to bookmarks from the topics in TOC. when i click on the a topic i am able to get that particular topic but along with other topics below it(as it is single html file). I want to get only that particular bookmark without any other matter above or below it. Hope i am clear. Please suggest.
Thanks in Advance
Anu

Re: Opening particular Bookmark with out any other matter
Is there a reason it has to be a single HTML file? I don't think there's a way to hide the other parts of a page that won't hide them all the time, so splitting it into different files would be the simplest approach.
Until next time....

Hi
Thanks for your reply.
My intension is to have less number of html files. I have abt more than 50 html files for help. with all of them help works fine.
I merged them to one single html file.If the problem gets solved with 2 files, it is ok. Please tell me how do i do that with 2 html files.
Thanks

Re: Opening particular Bookmark with out any other matter
You posted this in the Microsoft HTML Help forum (single .chm file), but it sounds like you're talking about WebHelp output (multiple .htm files).
In either output type, if you point the TOC to a bookmark in a topic, the topic will jump to the bookmark position in the topic, but it won't hide the content for the other bookmarks. If you want to show just some of the content, then you have a set of links at the top of the topic that are togglers, and when the user clicks on a toggler link, it expands that toggler to show only the content within the toggler. However, togglers aren't mutually exclusive -- if the user opens one toggler then clicks on another toggler, the first toggler's content is still displayed until the user clicks on that toggler again to close it.
If you want the content separated without having to use togglers (or expanding text or any of the other effects), then you'll have to use separate topics, like Kevin suggested.
If you're generating WebHelp output, there's no reason to put everything into one HTML file. First, your output is going to have a bunch of other supporting files in the output folder anyway (images files, skin files, etc.). Second, users hate having to scroll more than a couple of pages worth of content, so putting everything into a single file -- even if you use bookmarks -- is strongly NOT recommended. That second reason also applies to HTML Help (.chm) output.

Re: Opening particular Bookmark with out any other matter
Hi
I am using HTML help(.chm file) as output. I don't need any other files which madcap generates. I need only .chm and html files. I integrate them in my .net application. That is why i am looking for less number of html files. so instead of having 100 html files i can have just few. The help file which we used before has few word documents with many pages and when the topic is clicked it shows only that corresponding page with out anything else.I am looking for the same. Can you please help me.
Thanks
Anu

You are going to need to break up the files, There is no way to hide the content above or below the files.

Re: Opening particular Bookmark with out any other matter
The CHM file includes all of the HTML files, so the only thing you need to deliver to the developers is the CHM. The rest are all temporary files that are used to create the CHM.

Re: Opening particular Bookmark with out any other matter
I need htmls files also for help in .net applications. I am using .chm file in .net applicaiton using help providers. It would be of great help if you can tell me how to use only .chm files to navigate to different topics. If i have two buttons which links to two different topics then how would i do that with single .chm file. Now with different htmls files i open different files. Please suggest.

May you share that solution with us?
The only help control I know of that works as demanded is that of Win CE. There you have the entire help inlcuding TOC in one html file and the control uses the bookmarks as scroll blockers.
